University of the People was founded by the President, Shai Reshef in 2009 and was accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) in 2014. It's the world’s first tuition-free, non-profit, American accredited, online university. This online university has the best online learning model and volunteers around the world. The university offers Undergraduate certificates, Associates degree, Bachelors degree and Masters degree programs. The faculties are; Business Administration, Computer Science, Health Science, and Education.

It is a not-for-profit entity and in order to be sustainable, the institution charges modest fees for application and examination processing. All applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $60 (one-time) and a modest assessment fee (varies with different programs) at the end of each final assessment taken.
